Welcome to KRT Teens 2024! This year our Teens program will go back to the 50s with their presentation of A-WOP BOP A-LOO BOP!

 

KRT Teens offers young artists access to the process of musical theatre performance. In this program, KRT is dedicated to helping young artists develop and maintain positive self-image, understand and appreciate musical theatre and the many aspects that go into the creation of a production, and gain important lifelong skills. 

 

KRT Teens is intended for students ages 11-18. Prior theatre experience is not required! We welcome students of all experiences to our program. All registrants are guaranteed a role in the production. Technical and crew positions are also open to those students interested in working backstage. Registrants are expected to follow KRT's Code of Conduct.

Workshop Description:

KRT Teens is a fine art and physical education workshop blended into a rehearsal process which culminates in multiple public performances of the musical. The workshop will teach participants the fundamental techniques and vocabulary in basic vocal performance, acting, and dance skills. Emphasis will be placed on technique, movement skills, aesthetics of dance style, in addition to components of health-related fitness. The workshop strives to promote a lifelong interest in musical theatre.


Workshop Objectives:
★ To develop and maintain a positive self-image.
★ To gain understanding and develop appreciation of musical theatre performance through acting, singing, and dance.
★ To provide enjoyment and entertainment to peers, family, and friends.

★ To have fun while learning a lifetime activity.

Audition Date:
Wednesday / January 31, 2024 - 4pm-7pm

Audition Requirements:

Before auditioning, all registration forms must be completed (please see link below). Additional paper copies will be available at the audition date. 

​

Students are encouraged to prepare a resume of their theatrical or related experiences and a headshot (optional). Remember, prior theatre experience is not required. That's why we are welcoming you to our program!

​

Song: Students are asked to prepare a 32-bar cut (approximately 1.5 minutes of music) of two contrasting songs in the style of the show (think of the music of 1950s/1960s). A piano accompaniment will be provided and sheet music is preferred (with cuts clearly marked). A Bluetooth speaker will be available if students elect to sing with recorded accompaniment (or karaoke tracks).

Dance: Students will be asked to learn and perform a short dance combination with our choreographer. Please come to auditions prepared to move in comfortable clothing. 

 

Cold Reading of Script: Students will also be asked to participate in cold readings of the script (reading from the script without prior preparation. Students can expect 5 minutes to understand their scene, environment, and develop the character for which they read.

Call Time: Students are asked to stay at auditions for the complete 3 hours of auditions to complete all audition requirements (4pm-7pm).

Workshop Fee:
The workshop fee is $125.00 (due at auditions, method: cash/check). Workshop fees help cover costs associated with producing A-WOP BOP A-LOO BOP and giving students the best experience possible. KRT strives to make our educational programming accessible to all. Full and half scholarships are available. SUMMER 2024

PRODUCTION TITLE TBA

This summer long educational opportunity allows the youth of our region to participate in professional quality theatrical productions while learning the many aspects of live theatre performance. These aspects include auditioning, the rehearsal process, character creation, stage presence, and design elements like costuming and prop creation. 

​

We encourage students of all skill levels and experience to participate! Upcoming third grade students in the 2024-25 school year through students 18 years of age are eligible. This unique opportunity allows students that have participated in other youth productions of KRT to mentor and encourage their younger peers.

​

All registrants are guaranteed a role in the production, space is limited. Technical and crew positions are also open to those students interested. Registrants are expected to follow KRT's Code of Conduct.

​

Each production hosts almost three dozen participants with recent casts comprised of youth from Pendleton, Campbell, Bracken, Grant, and Harrison Counties. We invite you to join us!
